The Open shifts screen is where you bid for shifts posted by your facility or colleagues. Or post your own shifts that you want to swap or give away for your colleagues to bid.
View eligible open shifts
Open shifts eligible to you are shown as a list of cards under the Facilities or the Colleagues tab, depending on if they are posted by the facility or by individual nurses.
When there are a large number of open shifts, you can apply filters or change the sorting order to help you quickly find what you may be interested in.
You will get notifications when open shifts eligible for you are posted. If you happen to be viewing the corresponding open shift list at the time, the refresh symbol (two arrows forming a circle) right below the tabs will become enabled with a red dot indicating new updates. Tapping on the refresh symbol would refresh the list. This manual refresh is intended to avoid interfering with what you are doing on the UI (e.g., scrolling through the list looking for open shifts to bid). However, if you are not viewing the corresponding open shift list when a relevant notification comes in, it will refresh automatically.
Bid for an open shift
Tapping on an open shift card under the Facilities or Colleagues tab takes you to the Open shift details screen, from where you can bid for it.
When there are additional details, such as a crisis rate associated with the open shift, an info symbol (a circle with the letter “i” inside) will show up on the card. Tapping it brings up an action sheet showing the additional details. If the open shift is "first come, first served", an FCFS indicator will show up in the top right corner of the card. Any comments provided when posting the open shift can be viewed under the Comments tab.
To bid for the open shift, tap the gavel symbol on the top bar. An alert will pop up asking you to confirm.
After confirming your bid, you will be taken back to the Open shifts screen.
If the open shift is first come, first served and your bid has gone through, the corresponding card will disappear from the list. And you will be awarded the shift, which you can later see on the home screen or the schedule screen.
If the open shift is not first come, first served, a Bid indicator will show up in the top right corner of the card. And you will only be awarded the shift if the user who posted it manually selects you among all the bidders.
gavel symbol telling you the open shift is no longer available. And the corresponding card will disappear from the list on the Open shifts screen.Cancel your bid
If the open shift is not first come, first served, you can cancel your bid anytime before the user who posted it selects you among all the bidders. To do so, tap the corresponding open shift card, then on the Open shift details screen, tap the gavel symbol with an x in its lower right corner on the top bar. An alert will pop up asking you to confirm.
Post your own shifts
When you want to swap your shift to a different date or give it away but don't know which colleague is up for the swap or wants to take your shift, you can post it as an open shift. Colleagues eligible for that shift will get a notification through the NurseBrite mobile app and can then bid for it. To post your shift, tap the + symbol on the top bar and select an open shift type from the action sheet.
