Using the NurseBrite mobile app, you can manage your shifts, request changes (giveaway, swap, etc.), bid for open shifts, and receive notifications for important updates such as the opening of the self-schedule window and the approval of your requests.
User interface
This section introduces the NurseBrite mobile app user interface and explains some terminologies used throughout this user manual.
Bottom navigation bar
The bottom navigation bar appears at the bottom of the app. Each tab on the bottom navigation bar corresponds to a main feature of the app and allows quick navigation between each feature.
Top bar
The top bar appears at the top of the app. It shows the title of the current screen and may also contain buttons for performing actions relevant to the screen. Action buttons on the top bar would vary based on the function of each screen.
On most of the screens, the top bar is expandable (as indicated by the triangle symbol next to the title). Tapping the title expands the top bar and reveals more action buttons.
Action buttons in the expanded section of the top bar are typically for accessing auxiliary functions such as viewing information that helps you understand what is showing on the UI, providing feedback, and reporting issues. Tapping the title again or navigating away from the current screen collapses the expanded top bar.
Content area
Between the bottom navigation bar and the top bar is the content area. This is where users view and act upon the information relevant to their shifts, requests, etc.
Interactive UI elements
Most of the interactive elements on the UI, such as tabs, text fields, and drop-down lists, are pretty standard and intuitive. This section only focuses on explaining those UI elements that have variations in their look and feel and the way to interact with them.
Buttons
Besides the more standard-looking buttons with labels on them, there are also buttons with symbols instead of labels. And they are typically used in places with insufficient space to display labels or when symbols fit better aesthetically with the surrounding elements.
Throughout this user manual, we will interchangeably use the terms "button" and "symbol" depending on their visual style.
Cards
Cards are commonly used to group several relevant UI elements together. And we have two variations of cards:
- A pressable card has a drop-shadow. Tapping anywhere on the card triggers an action that typically takes you to a subsequent screen showing more details about what is presented on the card.
- A non-pressable card has a flat look (no drop-shadow). The card itself does not react to tapping. But in some cases, there could be other interactive UI elements such as buttons inside a non-pressable card.
Throughout this user manual, we will refer to both card types as "card".
Hierarchical navigation
Screens in the NurseBrite mobile app are organized hierarchically. The top-level screen of each main feature is directly accessible via the corresponding tab on the bottom navigation bar. Subsequent screen(s) of each feature can be accessed via buttons on the top bar or interactive UI elements (e.g., cards) in the content area.
When viewing a subsequent screen, a back button, often labeled with the previous screen's title, appears on the left side of the top bar. You can navigate back to the previous screen by tapping the back button or swiping from the screen's left edge.
When navigating using tabs on the bottom navigation bar, you are always taken to the top-level screen of the corresponding feature, regardless of which screen you previously viewed before navigating away from that tab. It is intentionally designed this way to make the navigation within the app more predictable.
Multiple-profile & facility-dependent functionalities
The NurseBrite mobile app supports multiple user profiles. In case you work at more than one facility, you can have a separate profile for each facility.
Certain features, such as self-schedule and request submission, would require you to select a specific facility first. And the functionalities of these features would vary depending on whether the selected facility has partnered with us (i.e., its management and nursing operation departments are also using NurseBrite).
Refer to the manage profiles section for more details.
